Individual extreme sport, surfing is practiced at sea. The objective is to stay as long as possible standing on top of a board, sliding over the waves through maneuvers. Some historians defend the idea that it arose in the Polynesian Islands when the natives went out to fish and, to get back to dry land faster, they slid their boats through the waves.
